One-on-One Interviews

Participants of One-On-One InterviewsOne-on-one interviews are the most important out of all interview strategies. These interviews are also the ones that cause the most stress. While telephone interviews are important many find that the anxiety is greatly enhanced when it comes to actually seeing the interviewer sitting across the table.

This is why many applicants who are otherwise perfectly qualified for the position and even make a good impression during a telephone interview fail to be hired because they are unable to pass the physical interview.

It is crucial to understand what is expected of you during this interview so you can excel at impressing the recruiter. It is possible that this interview can be one of several in a series of interviews that are designed to weed out candidates leaving only the most qualified and well suited to the position. You will want to make sure that you remain in the running for that position through all the phone interviews, screening processes, and physical interviews that may occur.

Tips to Succeed

Succeeding at one-on-one interviews is crucial in being hired. No matter how qualified or experienced you are failing at the physical interview may be enough to deny you a position with the company.

Dress Appropriately

First impressions are important so you will want to make sure that you are dressed for success. Even if you are applying for a position that has a casual dress code you will still want to dress professionally when meeting with recruiters. That extra effort will go a long way in impressing the recruiters and is sure to make a good impression.

Be Prepared

When you sit down with the interviewer you will want to make sure that you are properly prepared. While you may know everything already such as the dates of your prior employment, tax information, and other similar data you should carry that information with you just in case. You may be feeling anxious and nervous and it is during such times that you are liable to forget even the smallest details. You will also want to carry a pen, paper to jot notes down, and even a light snack if there is a que for interviews. Remember, it is better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it.

Study Up

During the days leading up to your interview you should take time to review and research the company you are applying for. It is important to demonstrate knowledge about the company such as the goals, objectives, and the mission statement. Make sure that these ideals reflect your own and that you understand what the company is striving to accomplish.

You should also take time to research the position you are interviewing for even if it is the same position you currently hold. Take a look at other positions as well that you may want to aim for as you advance in the company. Being ambitious will show that you plan to make the position you are seeking your career and not just another job.

One-on-one interviews are a pivotal step to being hired. This is the time for you to shine. The interviewer is going to be looking for someone who is not only capable but is personable as well. You want to be friendly and relatable as well as skilled and able.

Remember, you are certainly not first person to sit across from the interviewer but if you make a good impression you may be the last. You will need to be able to set yourself apart from other candidates by making a good impression.
